Gypsy music is the music of the Romani people, who have their origins in Northern India, but today live mostly in Europe. There is a strong tradition of Romani music in Central and Eastern Europe, notably in countries such as Hungary, Romania and the former Yugoslavia.
Greg Harbar is well known in Houston as an organizer of annual Julian New Year’s celebration. Mr. Harbar is an avid lover of Gypsy music. He has studied and mastered the art of it for decades. Mr. Harbar will talk about the history and the roots of Gypsy music and share some of his recordings. The public will then be treated to the wonderful performance by Greg Harbar (accordion and guitar), Vladimir Kotsiouruba (violin) and Barry Roberts ( bass balalaika).
