WHEN: March 6, 2011, 3 p.m.

WHERE: The Volcano Bar (2349 Bissonnet St; Houston, TX 77005)

For the third time we invite all friends to celebrate with us Maslenitsa or Pancake week, which is a Russian folk holiday that dates back to the pagan times. Maslenitsa has a dual ancestry – pagan and Christian. On the pagan side, Maslenitsa is a sun festival, celebrating the imminent end of winter, which is represented by an essential and delicious element – bliny or Russian pancakes, popularly taken to symbolize the sun. Round and golden, they are made from butter, eggs, and milk, and will be on sale at the festival!

This year again well-known Austin-based Russian trio Flying Balalaika Brothers will be playing. This group represents Russian folk crossover to bluegrass, country and rock. Watch out for the Bass Balalaika!

Special entertainment for kids!
